PERSONAL STUDY – 2 Points if turned in May 24th

1. Read Matthew 26:36-46. How was Gethsemane a picture of the suffering Jesus had to face? Does his suffering help you to face the possibility of persecution in your own life? If so, how?

2. Do you think most Christians in our culture expect to suffer for following Jesus? Should they? Why or why not? Read John 15:18-23.

3. If you are a disciple of Christ, did you anticipate such a price when you decided to follow Jesus? If you are not a disciple, how does learning of this suffering affect your decision making process about becoming a disciple?

1. Read Acts 16:1 – Timothy’s mother was what? Timothy’s father was what?

2. How would you feel if you were Timothy growing up in Lystra as a mamzer/outcast?

3. How would you feel if someone like Paul came into your life today and chose you to be his disciple? Would you go with him?

4. Repeatedly throughout the video, Ray talks about Paul chasing after a life that was as similar to Jesus’ life as he could live. He worked to live a life like Christ. I John 2:6 says “Whoever claims to live in him, must walk as Jesus did.” In what way are you walking like Jesus walked?

*Read Leviticus 9:2, Isaiah 53:5, Romans 12:1, and Hebrews 9:26. What message do you personally get from each of these verses?

1. In the video, Ray (the teacher) says that Paul felt that Antioch is “Where I’m supposed to be.” Do you feel like you are where you are supposed to be?

2. In the video, Ray says that Paul wants to go to Rome, but God has other plans first. God has things he needs Paul to do before he allows him to go to Rome. If you were Paul, excited to get to Rome, how would you feel about God having other things for you to do first?

3. In the video, Ray says that God has something he wants to show Paul. What does God want to show you? Are you looking for an answer to that question? Are you seeking after God?

4. What is the significance to us that Jesus opened the door for Gentiles to be saved and not just Jews?

3. Watch trough out the week. Make a note of anything that seems like God might be saying “Pay Attention To This!”

Personal Study Questions from Oct. 26th

Here are the personal study questions from October 26th. Please be sure to bring your completed questions in on Monday, November 2nd in order to earn points. This week's study questions are worth 3 points.

1. Joshua 1:9 is one of my favorite verses. Read it and write out how this verse can help you through a difficult situation you are currently facing.

2. Can you think of a time when God told you to do something one way, but you did it a little bit differently? Maybe you thought your way was better or less embarrassing. How do you think things would have turned out if you had done exactly what he told you to do?

3. Matthew 19:26 says that with God all things are possible. What looks like it is impossible in your life right now? Remove the word "impossible" from your vocabulary, and rewrite what you just wrote using your super power - God's power.

4. Pray this prayer if you need "super power" today.
Dear Father-God,
I need your power today. I know I can't win without your help. I ask you to help me win my battles today, because I know that you are truly on my side. Please fight for me, especially when you know I'd lose if I tried to go it alone.
Amen.

Skate Night - Personal Study - Underground Vietnam

This assignment is for anyone who joined us this summer for the Underground Reality Vietnam DVD series.

Please write a short letter to one of the following:
1 - The Christians in Vietnam
2 - Voice of the Martyrs - the US group that sent the teenagers
3 - One of the teenagers: Bethany, Wes, Bryant, Brad, Daniel "DJ", Jon, Shannon, or Jon.

There are 2-5 points available. You will not be "graded" on your spelling or punctuation. What I want to see is your heart. What do you really feel about this experience, the people, the situation, the risk, etc?

Turn in your letter next Monday night at Skate Night.

Study Questions
1. If you would go to prison to save the life of your best friend, to fight for your right to skateboard,, or because you were standing up for something you believe, would you go to prison for the God (Christ) who died to give you eternal life?
2. What made you give the answer you just gave? Why did you answer that way?
3. Christ died on the cross (still one of the most painful ways to die) in order to give you eternal life and save you from your sins. What are you willing to lose for Him?
4. I Peter 3:17 says it is better to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. What do you think this means in your daily life?

June 22 - Personal Study

Sometimes God changes things up at the last second, and you just have to go with it. The lesson I had planned for Monday night Skate Night, just didn't seem to fit that evening's atmosphere or the kids that were there. So, just as Bible Session was starting, we headed in a completely unplanned direction.

Therefore, there are no study questions from last Monday night. However, here are the three scriptures we looked at and discussed.

June 8th - Personal Study

1. In my example of being captured by the enemy, you became a slave. In reality, there are only two camps you can live in - Darkness or Light? Which kingdom are you living in?

2. Can you get to heaven by being a good person and doing good things?

3. By accepting God's rescue through Christ, you get to be God's son or daughter. What else does that mean? What ist he big benefit to that?

May 18th - Personal Study

1. How can you determine God’s will for your life?
2. How can you get God’s strength in your life?
3. How can you tell if your life is pleasing to God?
4. Do you have any friends that are “bearing bad fruit?” Are they being a worse influence on you than you are being a good influence on them?

May 11th - Personal Study

1. What are the three characteristics of a follower of Christ that we read about in Colossians and I Corinthians 13:13?

2. When praying, what should be a part of your prayers and daily life?

3. How can you tell if the gospel is “bearing fruit?”
