Changes at MAD Skates

FOOD
Dinner is now free!  Thanks to The Mills for bringing chili last week and Nick and Nina for bringing spaghetti this week.  Next Monday night will be free pizza.  We are always looking for people to supply dinner for our kids, so if you are interested, please contact me to schedule when you would be available to do that!

TEACHING
We now have three primary teachers at skate night.  Brett, Micki and Jeremy.  Jeremy taught his first lesson last night on God's protection and shared an exciting story about his family being captured while on safari in Africa.  Jeremy will be teaching on the third Monday of each month while Micki and Brett will share the rest of the weeks.  We are also always interested in guest speakers, so if you have a story to share and a heart to reach these kids, contact me.

United We Stand - February 14th - Bible Session Notes

I thought you might like to know what we are teaching at Skate Night, so I'm going to start posting my Bible Session notes from the nights that I am teaching.  The formatting looks a little odd when I copy and paste it into the blog, but you get the general idea of the lesson.

Here are the notes from last Monday night, February 14th.

Read Colossians 2:2

Paul wants the church (anyone who follows Christ) to be…

Encouraged in heart

United in love

Paul is speaking as a leader of the early church. He wants his students to follow Christ fully together. UNITED IN LOVE.

Read Matthew 12:25

Here Jesus says that every kingdom divided against itself will be…

Ruined

Every city or household divided against itself will…

Not stand

I think this is pretty clear. We need to be united in our attitudes, words, and actions.

Kingdom/Church Level – We, as believers/followers of Christ/Christians are all members of one church also known as “the body of Christ.” We need to be together, acting as one unit, focused on Christ and our attitudes, words and actions should support each other.

City or Household/Personal Level – Each one of us needs to have our attitude match our words and actions. If your heart is Christ-like then your actions and words will also be Christ-like.

Read Ecclesiastes 4:12

One may be…

Overpowered

Two can…

Defend themselves

Three…

Is not easily broken

We cannot and we should not try to stand in this battle alone. If you are struggling with something, ask for help. As the church, we are a family. We are all brothers and sisters. By yourself you can be overpowered. With two of working together, we can defend ourselves. Get a group together, and defeat is almost out of the question.

Read Philippians 2:1-4

Paul and Timothy are writing to the church and they say that the church can make their joy complete by doing what?

Being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose

Read vs. 3 again. Who can tell me what humility is? modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance, rank, not proud or arrogant; modest

Vs. 4 – Look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Paul isn’t saying don’t take care of yourself or don’t look after yourself. He’s saying look out for others AS WELL. If what you are doing is hurting someone else, you are definitely not “looking out for the interests of others.”

What is your “take home” from this lesson? How will you apply it to your life?

Prayer Team

We are looking for 5-7 dedicated people to pray for MAD Skates at a minimum of once a week but preferably daily.

Prayer requests will be specific to our ministry, the leadership, and the youth that attend.  Prayer requests will be sent via email as they come up with an ongoing list as well.

If you are interested, please let me know via email.  Also, please let me know if there is a specific area you are interested in prayer for - ex. the kids, the leadership, financial, building, growth, etc.

Thank you.
