Bible Session Notes & Skate Night Review - April 25th

For Bible Session this week, we did EASTER IN REVIEW.  I wanted to know who had gone to church, where they went, what they thought, what they learned, what they enjoyed, etc.

It worked out great, and we had a really good discussion.  We have kids that go to the following types of churches: Catholic, Episcopalian, Pentecostal, Baptist, Foursquare, and Non-Denominational/Community.

One of the kids talked about the Good Friday service they attended.  One shared with us about the Passover Celebration they did at their house.  Someone else shared about the play they participated in on Easter Sunday.  Everyone seemed to enjoy hearing how the different denominations celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  I think it was also good for the kids that don't attend church to see how much fun church can be.

Honestly, I felt it was one of the best Skate Night's we've had.

For fun...  We had a "guess how many beans in the jar" challenge, which Sam won.  We also played organized dodge ball and had a great time.  Skating, shooting hoops, and enjoying some pizza rounded out the night.

Thanks to everyone who continues to support us through prayer and/or finances.  We truly appreciate it and could not do this without you.

God bless.

Bible Session Notes - April 18th

Jeremy led Bible Session on Monday night.  Here are the notes I took while he was speaking.  The kids had a lot of questions that we discussed, but I did not take notes on during that time.

BIBLE DRILL:
Galatians 2:20-21
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!
(If we could save ourselves through good works, Christ would not have needed to die.)

I Corinthians 1:18-19
For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate." Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
(No matter how much intelligence and wisdom you have without God it means nothing.)

BIBLE CONVERSATION
Colossians 1:10-22
And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.

*Because Jesus died, we have joy and power and all the blessings God has given us.
*Every single thing in your life is created and made possible by God.

Stop Human Trafficking - Run or Walk the FREE THEM 5K on May 7th

More than 1 million vulnerable people are trafficked every year, forced into unfair work environments, to become servants or sex slaves.  People like the kids we work with at Skate Night.  Our kids.  Our family.  We like to think that these "global issues" won't reach us here in suburbia, but the reality is kids are taken from just about everywhere and anywhere.  What are you going to do it about?

I have an email fitness group I started, and I am encouraging all of them to sign up and run or walk this 5K.  I am asking the same of the local followers of MAD Skates.  This is an easy way in which we can Make A Difference.  I hope to see you at the event.  1 year ago this event raised $83,000.  Let's be a part of beating that number.  Let's work together to keep our kids safe.  On May 7th, let's Make A Difference that will last.

Bible Session Notes - April 11th

Monday we watched the final portion of the Indescribable video.
Questions following the film...

1. Scientists say that every second a star is born – Thoughts?

2. What was your immediate gut reaction to seeing Christ on the cross?
What was your second thought/feeling/reaction?

3. God came to earth through His son, Jesus, and introduced us to astronomical grace. How do you react to Psalm 103:8-10? "The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities."

4. In the center of the Whirlpool Galaxy is a cross. What ways do you see reminders of God’s grace in the world around you?

5. God is for you. He wants to completely forgive you. He has an incredible plan and purpose for your life. What does that mean to you?

6. God is absolutely massive and He wants you to be a part of this amazing story. How does that make you feel?

7. How should God’s greatness affect you today and tomorrow and the next day? How should knowing how great he really is change your life?

Final Thoughts:

There is nothing this world can throw at you that is bigger than God. Put your trust in Him and He will see you through any difficulty.

Monday Night's Notes

We watched the second third of the DVD on Monday night.  Here are the thought provoking questions we asked and discussed following the viewing.

Questions following the film...
1. What feeling does this picture of earth (the classic Apollo 17 shot) give you?

2. Everyone who ever lived out their life… lived it on that Pale Blue Dot.
Re-read Psalm 8:4-5 "what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. "
What does Louie mean by significant insignificance?

3. What is your reaction to the idea that God is so massive, so huge, so indescribable and yet, He knows you by name and He love you?

4. What was your immediate gut reaction to God creating a raging ball of fire like the sun?

5. Have you ever thought of God as ferocious?

6. Re-read Philippians 2:5-8
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Why do you think God (who can hold the universe in the palm of his hand) came to earth to live with us?

7. Everything in the universe was made to bring glory to God. That includes you and me. How are you bringing glory to God?
