RAMP IT UP!

Ladies and Gents,

The time is near... Only three more weeks until the Arizona Rock n Roll Half Marathon.  My mother and I will be walking the half marathon on January 16th.  For both of us this is a new challenge.  Neither of us has ever done a half marathon.  So, what does this have to do with the subject line "Ramp It Up!"?

Well...

We decided to take this opportunity to raise some money to help M.A.D. Skates!  Funds raised through this adventure will be used to purchase portable ramps for our Monday night skate outreach.

So, go to www.giveforward.com/rampitup and make your donation today.

Skate Night Cancelled for Tonight

Sorry everyone, but I feel it is the wise choice to cancel Skate Night for tonight.  We have the flu in our family right now, and I did not get the studs on the van in time to beat the bad weather.  Please be safe out there, enjoy the snow, and have a fantastic THANKSGIVING!  We'll see you next week.

Go to www.goodsearch.com and when it says, "Who do you search for?" type in MAD Skates.  Choose MAD Skates and Rec Center (Bothell, WA) and start searching.

I just received our first check from GoodSearch, and I'm looking forward to getting the next one when more people than just myself are using it.  I have been using GoodSearch for 1 full year now, and I have to say that I'm happy with the results it comes up with.

Make the switch from Google or Bing today and help M.A.D. Skates one search at a time!

Injured Again - Prayer and Set up Help Needed

Yes folks, I have injured myself again.  This time it is my right hip flexor, and loading and unloading the van is going to be next to impossible as I can hardly get in and out of my car.  If I could get one person to help unload the van tomorrow night (Monday 5:15) it would be greatly appreciated.  Hopefully, we will have Nick and Kory back tomorrow night to load it at the end of the night.

Also, I would greatly appreciate prayer for my injury.  I was just getting over the left quad tear and hip flexor strain and had begun training in earnest with my mom for the half marathon we have signed up for in January.  The left leg took almost 5 months to heal, and as you can see on your calendars, I have 2 months for this leg to heal.  Please pray for a miracle.

Thanks everyone, and may God richly bless each and every one of you.

Sincerely from my heart,
Brett Elizabeth Spore

Van Battery Update

Half of the money has come in and the other half has been promised to us. Thank you to those who jumped in to help out.  The battery was replaced Tuesday night, the van passed emissions Wednesday afternoon, and Lord willing I'll be getting the new tabs for it this morning.  Thanks again to everyone who helped keep us running!

Taking Back Halloween

Here at our house we get around 100 trick-or-treaters every year.  This year was no different with a record high of 119!

Every year I try to do something to help "take back Halloween" and give glory to God.  This year, I put a sign on our door that said, "If you are a skater, raise your hand."

The first group of kids that came to the door had 2 junior high boys in the front with their hands raised.  I gave them each one of the skater packets I had put together.  They were so excited that after I gave them their candy, they asked if they could give me a hug.  It was a pretty awesome start to the night.

So, what was in the packet?
Mike Steinkamp's Skate Testimony on DVD
The Gospel of John put out by Pocket Testament League
NOTW Sticker
MAD Skates Sticker
MAD Skates Business Card with the Skate Night information on the back

I handed out approximately 10 complete packets, 3 more Gospels of John, and about 5 business cards.  I just pray God uses these items to reach into the hearts of the young people and 2 women who took the packets.  I ask that all of you take a moment and say a prayer for these people as well.  We need your help...

Washington State is listed as one of the most unchurched states in the U.S. and Wikipedia states that we are part of what is now known as the "Unchurched Belt." As of 2000, the six U.S. states reported to have the lowest rate of religious adherence were Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Nevada, Maine, and West Virginia.  In January of 2009, Washington was rated as 6th lowest in having "religion as part of their daily life."

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Skate and Be Counted!

A new friend of mine is putting on a Late Night Christian Skate Jam at the Mukilteo YMCA on Saturday, September 18th. It is his goal to put Christ back in the Young Men's CHRISTIAN Association.

First request - PRAY FOR THIS EVENT!

Second request - Show up and skate!

Third request - Bring your friends!

Final request - PRAY MORE! :)

Seriously folks, we need to be here for this. Russ has spent 6 years trying to get the YMCA to allow a "Christian" event at their facility. We need to support this movement to put Christ back into an organization that was founded on Christian values, principles, and Christ himself - the solid rock.

Chair Massage is Back

Our masseuse will be back this coming Monday, August 30th. She is starting school in September and may not be back again this year, so come Monday night if you would like a massage!

$15 for 15 minutes

Dodge This!

Monday night we had 5 guests arrive just as we were starting our game of dodgeball. Teams were divided up equally by height.
Despite losing one player due to his ride home arriving early and the team apparently being overwhelmed at the start of the event, the red team dominated in a 5-1 victory over the neon yellow team winning a free soda for everyone on the team!

Intensity Increases with This Week's Episode

I just finished watching the next two weeks worth of our Underground Reality: Columbia video series, and it is good! I'm really looking forward to sharing the video tomorrow night, so I hope all of our regular attendees can come and bring a friend. We will have popcorn with the DVD as usual.

Also, I will be sharing a couple of thank you notes from our ministry friends around the world, and we'll be doing our new version of Bible Drill. So study your books of the Bible tonight, and come win some candy tomorrow. :)

Skate Conference 2010

Jason (my husband) and I attended this conference in 2008, and it was fantastic. We are praying about whether or not God wants us to attend in 2010.

It looks like this year, skaters and not just leaders are able to attend. If you are interested in attending, please check out http://www.skateconference.com/ and let me know. We'll see where God leads all of us this fall.

Skate Night Update

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight for skate night. Everyone seemed to have a great time playing dodgeball and skating. I am truly thankful that I have the opportunity to work with such great kids. A special thank you to the parents for driving your kids each week.

Thanks to Crystal for doing the chair massages again, and thanks to those of you who received a massage. We appreciate your support and hope you enjoyed your massage.

Next Monday night I am planning on starting the Underground Reality: Columbia video series. The group seemed to enjoy the Vietnam series we did last summer. In this series, one of the teens that went on the Vietnam trip takes a new group to Columbia. We will have popcorn with the movie each week. Pizza, snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.

Jubilee Skate Shop - The Jubilee Skate Shop merchandise will be put out on the last Monday of each month. How will you remember this? If we are having FREE PIZZA, the skate shop merchandise will be there. :) A percentage of all profits from Jubilee Skate Shop goes to M.A.D. Skates.

Personal Study Questions - May 17th

Here are the personal study questions from May 17th.

PERSONAL STUDY – 2 Points if turned in May 24th

1. Read Matthew 26:36-46. How was Gethsemane a picture of the suffering Jesus had to face? Does his suffering help you to face the possibility of persecution in your own life? If so, how?

2. Do you think most Christians in our culture expect to suffer for following Jesus? Should they? Why or why not? Read John 15:18-23.

3. If you are a disciple of Christ, did you anticipate such a price when you decided to follow Jesus? If you are not a disciple, how does learning of this suffering affect your decision making process about becoming a disciple?

Help Needed - Monday!!!

Friends,

We desperately need help setting up and tearing down this Monday night. Micki will not be there to assist Jeremy with set up as a member of her family is having surgery, and she must be with her. Additionally, my husband who usually handles tear down with the kids will be unavailable this Monday night due to a work obligation, so any extra hands for tear down would also be appreciated.

Thank you,

Brett

Thanks from Jamaica

This email came through on December 24th...

I can not thank you and your guys enough for the gift! I learned about it today and was touched that the kids wanted to designate the gift to the Jamaican Skatepark Fund!!

Please tell everyone how thankful we are. We just had our first annual skate camp here in Jamaica and it was a huge success!

Much love!

Skate Night - BFC Visit

Tonight the guys from BFC (Boarders for Christ) came to Skate Night for a visit and to help out in my absence. The report I received from my volunteers is that the kids loved having BFC and that Sky did a great job sharing his testimony.

We hope that the BFC crew will visit us again soon. Thanks to BFC for coming alongside our ministry and sharing this time with our youth; you are always welcome in our house.

Skate Night Begins for 2010

Skate Night starts again tonight. The pizza has been ordered. The van has left my house and has arrived at the church. Set up has started.

If you can, come skate tonight! It's the first of the month, so scooters are allowed.

Micki will be running the show, but I might stop by at the end of the night with Isaac, so Jason can drive the van home. :)

Next week we have a special guest - Boarders for Christ!
